History of the Faculty

Chemistry

The first chemical studies in Heidelberg took place as early as 1784, when Georg Adolf Suckow (1751-1813), Professor of Mathematics, Natural History, Chemistry and Botany, was put in charge of the natural history collections of the "Hohe Kameralschule", which had been transferred from Kaiserslautern to Heidelberg.

Earth Sciences

When the “Hohe Kameralschule” moved from Kaiserslautern, also an extensive collection of minerals came to Heidelberg, which established the beginnings of earth sciences in Heidelberg.

Geography

As lectures on physical and mathematical geography have been held regularly since 1895 at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, this year is regarded as the founding year of Heidelberg Geography.
